On Friday, President Trump signed an executive order cutting off U.S. funding to the international abortion cartel. Called the Mexico City Policy, the policy ensures "that no U.S. taxpayer money supports foreign organizations that perform or actively promote abortion in other nations."
The Mexico City Policy was first put in place by President Reagan, a victory in which I played a part. Every Republican president since has embraced the funding cut-off, while every Democrat since has continued to funnel U.S. funds to the International Planned Parenthood Federation and other abortion groups.
In keeping with the bold approach of Trump in his second term, the latest version of the MCP is bigger and better than ever.
As in his first term his prohibition applies not just to our foreign aid agency, but extends to all global health assistance, regardless of what department or agency it comes from. Not one dollar of the roughly $11 billion we will send overseas this year can support abortion.
Moreover, the new policy further directs the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars do not fund organizations or programs that support or participate in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.
The UN Population Fund has historically been the biggest offender in this regard, and this action should go a long way towards making sure that this rogue UN body, or any other, does not receive US funding.
But it gets even better.
Yesterday, President Trump directed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that all existing grants and contracts would be paused pending a 90-day mandatory review. Foreign assistance will be permanently cut off, the directive reads, if "not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the President of the United States."
Following the President's orders, Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered a complete halt to spending on most existing foreign aid grants for 90 days, except for those to Israel and Egypt. During that time, all grants will be reviewed.
Rubio's guidance, issued to all diplomatic and consular posts, requires department staffers to issue "stop-work orders" on nearly all "existing foreign assistance awards."
In other words, no money goes out the door unless the programs in question conform to the President's foreign policy.
This means that programs that fund abortion, coercive population control programs, and gender insanity will not get funding for the next 90 days - even if they have been previously approved by Biden - unless they are recertified.
The task before the pro-life movement now is to identify such programs, in whatever country around the world that they are currently operating in, so that they can be permanently defunded.
We at the Population Research Institute will certainly play our part.
These are just a few of the many victories we have won over the years.
Now we have a chance to end abortion funding, population control, and gender insanity once and for all.
But the clock is ticking.
In 90 days, some of these anti-life, anti-people people programs will start receiving funds again - unless we identify those that violate the President's policies.
And make the temporary funding pause permanent.
Let's end the War on People. It's time.
