Legitimizing Infanticide in America

In news that angered and disgusted countless people throughout the state and the country, Virginia's controversial governor, Ralph Northam, discussed and defended the state's proposed late-term abortion bill prior to its defeat. According to Salon:

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, expressed support for the bill and spoke about his belief that politicians should leave termination decisions to women, their families and their physicians during a radio interview on Wednesday. He told WTOP that late-term abortions are "done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that's not viable. So in this particular example, if a mother's in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."

Northam does not stand alone in his callous disregard for innocent persons - born and preborn. In fact, the escalating cries for such laws are worth noting. They represent individuals who avoid truth while clinging to a disjointed perspective of women's rights that includes killing babies.

Consider for a moment the implications of Northam's comment that, after delivery, the infant would be "kept comfortable" until his mother decided whether to let him live or have him killed!

This twisted view of comfort care exists at both ends of the life spectrum, and, in either case, the comfort equates with palliative care used to hasten death. Indeed, even recent medical journal articles, including one entitled "End-of-Life Decisions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Medical Infanticide or Palliative Terminal Care?," reflect this macabre approach.

Are these allegedly humane practices any different than the cruelty of convicted abortionist Kermit Gosnell? In the movie Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer, we are brought face to face with another man who found no sorrow in his heart for the babies he brutally killed and the women he maimed and killed in the process. The abortion practitioner, as well as abortion advocates, know no compassion.

In fact, there is really no difference between the Cuomos and Northams of the political world and the practitioners who commit the dirty deeds.

This, my friends, is what our nation is facing as we mainstream practices exactly like those Gosnell committed. Politicians are working to provide those surgical killings with constitutional protection in state after state in America.

Ordained Anglican minister Brian Shoemaker writes:

Many years ago, Mark Twain wrote that we had become "a civilization which has destroyed the simplicity and repose of life; replaced its contentment, its poetry, its soft romance-dreams and visions with the money-fever, sordid ideals, vulgar ambitions, and the sleep which does not refresh . . . it has dethroned God and set up a shekel in His place."

Is the number of abortions in our country an indication that God has been dethroned?

When one thinks seriously about the rabid rush to legally protect any abortion or act of infanticide that is possible under any circumstance, including live birth babies, it is clear that not only has America dethroned God, but that our nation has elevated Satan to a position of highest honor.

What can we do to teach not only our community, but our children, about the sanctity of human life and to help them understand the truth behind the atrocities that they hear about on the nightly news? We must educate them. We must explain that every human being is a valuable gift from God, not something to be discarded. A great place to begin is with the Culture of Life Studies Program. Its writers have created a thought-provoking free movie discussion guide on the Gosnell movie. Questions and answers posed for the students are intended to help them draw conclusions about the realities of the evil of abortion, not just in the movie but in real life.

In addition, we must pray. Get on your knees, my friends, and pray like mad for our nation, for the babies, and for one another. If ever we needed a Marian Blue Wave, it is now.
