As a senior living with macular degeneration, I know a thing or two about blurred vision. When it is the eyes, there are things that can be done, but when it is the soul, well, that's another thing entirely.
When one encounters a man who chooses to teach others about the sanctity of life, for example, we would hope that this man would be applauded. But the story of street preacher John Andrade Jr. exposes the blurred vision of those who oppose Andrade's words.
Andrade is being sued by the state of Maine because he had the courage to preach truth outside a Planned Parenthood facility! In response he said, "In my understanding, it seems that 'noise' is not Planned Parenthood's issue with me. Instead, they are opposed to the message of love and salvation through Jesus, along with our message that killing children in the womb is a great evil, and that the lives of these human children in the womb matter."
Blinded by worldly enchantment with evil, it seems that Maine officials have rejected truth.
In another arena, the media is suggesting that under the leadership of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, the court has taken a "dramatic rightward turn." The very idea that Supreme Court justices could actually consider fundamental truths when making decisions appears to irk some folks. That leads us to make note of their blurred vision as well.
But perhaps the most blatant case of cloudy perspectives comes from those who actually believe that such things as gender therapy and its subsequent rejection are really a thing. The fundamental reality that one's gender is not up for debate seems to have escaped those who are involved in what they appear to believe is the ethical alteration of one's gender. While this concept is mind blowing to simple folk like us, it is a money-making business for many, including Planned Parenthood.
It appears that over the years the denizens of evil doings have become bolder in their desire to reconfigure the minds and bodies of those who perhaps naively come to them in pursuit of assistance in their sexual interests. Ever since Margaret Sanger first called the poor "human weeds," the penchant for remaking the human race in an evil image has beset more than a few who believe they are doing good rather than reaping immorality. We doubt they even realize that anything so banal could be so damaging, dangerous, and deadly to the body and soul.
This lack of clear insight reminds us of C. S. Lewis' writings, especially this letter Screwtape wrote to Wormwood on the subject of deceiving human beings, whom he referred to as his patients:
Be sure that the patient remains completely fixated on politics. Arguments, political gossip, and obsessing on the faults of people they have never met serves as an excellent distraction from advancing in personal virtue, character, and the things the patient can control. Make sure to keep the patient in a constant state of angst, frustration, and general disdain towards the rest of the human race in order to avoid any kind of charity or inner peace from further developing. Ensure the patient continues to believe that the problem is "out there" in the "broken system" rather than recognizing there is a problem with himself.
If the evil one could manage it, he would blind every human being to the truth. That is his mission. And our mission is to treat the blurred vision of human weakness with the healing salve of Christ's love.
