Pope Benedict XVI once wrote, "Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic."
Oh how many ways there are to underscore the truth of that simple statement, starting with the laboring mother who does not merit special attention on Labor Day. While she bears children, cares for her family, is frequently part of the workplace, and barely has time to care for herself, her labors are not celebrated on this holiday.
It seems that the politics of today are too enmeshed in its created hell's paradise. Given this situation, we must focus on why this is so.
Number one on our agenda is the political question of gender. While a person's gender is determined at the creation of her first cell, the popular theory is that gender is a matter of politics and can be changed at will. But we must understand the error in that line of thinking.
To help protect children, the Trump administration has issued a subpoena that recently caused the University of Michigan to suspend its "gender transitions." In fact, Trump has threatened criminal and civil charges if the gender surgeries on students who are not yet 19 are not stopped immediately. While some are upset by this threat, we are perplexed. This is so because common sense dictates that gender is not a matter of a surgical procedure but rather lies in the realm of nature; that is procreation.
Today, however, false politics tempt man to replace God's authorship of men and women.
We also see this in Chicago, Illinois, where scientists are working to determine whether or not contraception for rats may be safer than rat poison. Lincoln Park Zoo officials are very concerned about this, which begs a question about human beings, as Illinois has recently seen an influx of expectant mothers seeking death for their preborn children. Why do Illinois scientists remain silent? Perhaps because killing people is profitable for the state, while assuring that mice die without pain is a top priority.
False politics in Illinois at its finest.
Lest we forget, there is also the case of Vice President JD Vance praying in public after the school shooting in Minneapolis. He did so after former White House "Press Secretary Jen Psaki criticized calls for 'thoughts and prayers' as a response to the tragedy, stating in a post on X, 'Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.'"
Such vapid comments lead us to ask whether or not Psaki's brand of false politics has come straight from the pits of hell itself. Who in her right mind would dismiss prayer as a useless effort? Oh, excuse me, we know who!
Not to be outdone, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement on the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Yet USCCB's false politics became evident because the statement never made note of the fact that there was an increase in abortions in Louisiana as a direct result of that horrible weather event that took the lives of so many people.
At the time, Planned Parenthood spokesman Peter Durkin said, "We're offering a free month's supply of birth control pills and/or emergency contraception if they have either a Mississippi or Louisiana driver's license. . . . It's an opportunity to let people know, during these calamities, sometimes you don't bring your pills with you, because you're trying to get out of there in one piece."
Or to put it another way, a preborn baby is disposable, especially during times of calamity. The USCCB failed to make note of this.
If this is not yet another sign of the problem America has when abortion becomes a mere political issue instead of the deadly act it is, then we have no idea what is.
False politics is arrogant, deceptive, and deadly, and it leads away from God and straight to the demonic.
