July 17, 2026 - I know we have written to you about Safe Haven laws before, but every time I read another news story about a newborn being abandoned to die alone, my heart breaks and my blood boils.
Every single state in the union has a Safe Haven law that allows mothers who feel they cannot parent their child to drop them off at hospitals, fire station and police precincts. In 11 states there are now Safe Haven Baby Boxes that allow newborns to be surrendered anonymously.
There are no legal ramifications for mothers, and no baby has to die alone in the elements, or even worse, be destroyed by abortion. And yet, it keeps happening.
In May, a woman allegedly placed her newborn daughter alone in a field near her home in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, then went to work. The child, identified as Betty Lee Norris, was found dead the next day. The coroner determined she died from hypothermia caused by being abandoned outdoors in inclement weather. The mother has been charged with murder and she could be looking at a long time behind bars: A Virginia mom who left her baby in a park to die of hypothermia in 2020 was sentenced to 32 years in prison.
Another mom is the now the subject of a nationwide manhunt after leaving her newborn inside a portable toilet at the Electric Forest music festival in Michigan in June. Preliminary autopsy findings reportedly determined the baby had been born alive and was viable. The FBI has offered a $15,000 reward for information.
If more people knew about Safe Haven laws and baby boxes, lives would be saved. We can't look to the legacy media to do the job for us because clearly it has not. That leaves us on our own with a mandate to ensure that every young woman knows she can save her baby's life and safeguard her own future.
Will you join me and my team at Priests for Life by helping to spread awareness of Safe Haven laws in all 50 states, and the existence of Safe Haven Baby Boxes in eleven states?
When you click the link below, you will be taken to a page where you can let me know you are willing to spread the word, and I'll give you some suggestions to help you. And please forward this email to as many other interested people as you can!
