Precious Life Thankful that Abortion Bill Now ‘Dead’

On 9th January 2017, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness (Sinn Fein) MLA announced his resignation from the Northern Ireland Assembly. His resignation as deputy first minister meant that Arlene Foster (DUP) MLA lost her role as First Minister. No longer jointly headed by a unionist and nationalist, Stormont was brought to a sudden standstill. Sinn Fein had seven days to nominate a new deputy first minister. Having refused to do this, however, a new general election is on the horizon.

One consequence of Stormont’s collapse is the collapse of Alliance Party David Ford MLA’s Private Member’s Bill which sought to legalise abortion of unborn babies with life-limiting disabilities, right up to the moment of birth.

“Of course, it is very unfortunate that Stormont has been brought to a halt following the deputy first minister’s resignation earlier this week, but the pro-life majority are thankful that David Ford’s abortion bill is now ‘dead’.

“Yes, a lot of hard work lies ahead with a general election just around the corner, but Precious Life are ready to launch a massive province-wide ‘Vote for Life’ campaign to ensure that the people of NI vote only for pro-life candidates and those who are pro-abortion will not be elected.

“We are hopeful that the newly elected government will uphold, respect, and protect the rights of every citizen, born and unborn. We are hopeful that perinatal hospice care services will be implemented in every hospital throughout Northern Ireland and women whose unborn babies have been diagnosed with life-limiting disabilities will finally receive the care and support they need. Women and their babies deserve better than abortion.”
