Pierre Manent was director of studies at L’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, until his retirement in 2014. He is the author of numerous books, including The City of Man, Democracy without Nations?, Metamorphoses of the City, and most recently, Natural Law and Human Rights: Toward a Recovery of Practical Reason.
