Did You See This Alarming Statistic?

Katie Barrett

Hi Jerome,

I recently read a blog post that said 67% of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted in the United States.

This statistic broke my heart and immediately reminded me of the night I met up with my friend after she had finished volunteering at a Night to Shine - a celebratory “prom night” experience for people with special needs.

She was in charge of running the karaoke booth at the event.

Disney’s Frozen 2 had just come out, and the song “Into the Unknown” was a fan favorite.

EVERYONE wanted their chance at the mic to be a star and sing their favorite song from the film.

When we got together afterwards, she was beaming as she told me what a great time she had volunteering, how sweet everyone was, and how excited they were to be there that night, singing and dancing the night away.

Having a disability is not a tragedy; the fact that people with a fundamental right to life are aborted simply because they’re prenatally diagnosed with a disability is.

The blog post I read does a wonderful job of explaining this idea in more detail - I highly suggest you check it out: https://www.care-net.org/abundant-life-blog/abortion-based-on-disabilities-is-ableism

Has your life been positively impacted by a child or friend with special needs??

Reply back and let me know. I’d love to hear about them!

Happy weekend,
