Oppose The Equality Act: A Message From The Health Care Policy Committee

Steven White, M.D.

Dear Jerome Novotny,

It is imperative that we all voice our opposition to the Equality Act recently introduced in the U.S. Congress. While its supporters insist it is intended to end unjust discrimination based upon sexual orientation and gender identity, in fact, critics warn the bill “would recognize sexual orientation and gender identity as protected legal classes and require people to conform to LGBT equality and transgender ideology regardless of their religious beliefs.”

Healthcare professionals will be required to provide transgender interventions if requested to do so whether or not they believe it is in their patients best interest and without regard for their right to religious liberty and freedom of conscience. In addition, a refusal to provide for an abortion could be considered “pregnancy discrimination” subject to civil penalties.

The Equality Act, in effect, promotes discrimination. In fact, it will cause grave harm to those it is intended to protect and it will brazenly discriminate against all those who refuse to conform to new sexual and gender ideologies.

Please respond now to the Human Life Action alert (below)!

Please pray that our representatives in Congress will reject this egregious assault on life, religious liberty and the truth and beauty of human sexuality.

Sincerely in Christ,

Steven White, M.D.
Chair, Health Care Policy Committee

Human Life Action Message:

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. The Equality Act, which is being voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives soon, in many ways does the opposite and needs to be opposed.

Instead of respecting differences in beliefs about marriage and sexuality, the Equality Act would discriminate against people of faith. The Equality Act would: punish faith-based organizations, such as charities and schools who serve everyone in their communities, simply because of their beliefs; force girls and women to compete against boys and men for limited opportunities in sports, and to share locker rooms and shower spaces with biological males who identify as women; risk mandating taxpayers to fund abortions; force people in everyday life, and especially health care workers, to support gender transition; and expand what the government considers a “public” place, forcing even some parish halls to host functions that conflict with Catholic beliefs.

Tell Congress to oppose the Equality Act.
