I. Introduction

So you think that Gnosticism (meaning "secret knowledge") is passe? Indeed, the world is drowning in it! Even just Google and Bing "gnostic" in their NEWS searches! See below some of the Gnostic jewelry sites currently online -- pointed out to me by the university students I was teaching (!). Only a few examples from just 5 out of 1730 sites for "Gnostic jewelry"!

II. What is Gnosticism?

To understand what Gnosticism is (both ancient and post-Christian) and what its mythological cosmology and "ethics" are, see my article copying verbatim international expert on Gnosticism, Hans Jonas: "GNOSTICISM, the Heretical Gnostic Writings, and 'Judas'" (April 9, 2006), at: http://www.lifeissues.net/writers/irv/irv_121gnosticism1.html. See also Hans Jonas informative book, The Gnostic Religion, 2nd ed. (Boston: Beacon Press, 1963; explains many of the "symbols" used from Gnostic myths that Gnostics use to communicate with each other -- e.g., PEARL necklaces indicate that you are a Gnostic Goddess, etc.). See also other very excellent series of articles on Gnosticism:

Four good books for starters: John Saward, trans., The Scandal of the Incarnation: Irenaeus Against the Heresies (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 1990) -- Irenaeus' arguments against the early Christian Gnostic heresies; Eric Voegelin, Science, Gnosticism and Politics (Chicago: Chicago University Press, 1993) -- a good explanation of how Gnosticism reemerged in contemporary philosophy and politics; and, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Catholics and the New Age: How Good People Are Being Drawn into Jungian Psychology, the Enneagram, and the Age of Aquarius (Servant Publicants, 1992) -- includes how Gnosticism infiltrated the seminaries, etc.

Oh, and BTW, some of the current "labels" used by some of the Gnostics are "transhumanism", "futurism", "posthumanism" and "technoprogressivism" -- even if some of their "followers" are oblivious to this (although they often find out later if they are accepted into the higher orders).

Note that all forms of Gnosticism are pantheistic (only one entity in the cosmos = the Ultimate Deity, thus no individuals, opposites are the same, requires Chaos, etc.), polytheistic (all the gods and goddesses of the spheres, are androgynous), and paganistic -- consider what the consequences are of just that! Gnosticism is also very anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, anti-anything but Gnosticism; has deconstructed all major religions in the world to have them "claim" things those religions would never claim. (Might Google or Bing "Gnostic Catholic Church"!). But there sure are lots of customers TODAY for Gnostic jewelry and other Gnostic paraphernalia; see just a few examples below (tip of the iceberg). Recognize any of them?! Go on any of the 1700+ websites and find tons of other examples.

IV. Conclusion:

The consequences of Gnosticism and its mythologies are disastrous and even deadly. Yet it has existed successfully since at least 5000 B.C. to the present. Historically, when it is exposed, it goes underground until it thinks it is safe to "come out" again -- but usually takes on a different "name" so that people don't realize what has really "come out" (e.g., "New Age" in the 1960's in California, etc.). On the other hand, as this information on current Gnostic jewelry websites indicates, it also often shows ("opposites are the same"!) no hesitation to call a spade a spade -- precisely what the non-Gnostic world needs to do about Gnosticism for a change. But if people don't know what Gnosticism is, then they can't refute it.
