Thank You Archbishop Charles Chaput

Judie Brown

Dear Jerry,

In a recent statement regarding same-sex marriage, Archbishop Charles Chaput explained "There is no love — no charity — without truth, just as there is no real mercy separated from a framework of justice informed and guided by truth. At the same time, truth used as a weapon to humiliate others, truth that lacks patience and love, is a particularly ugly form of violence."

He said this in explaining to his flock in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that blessing a same sex union was not only contrary to God's design for marriage but it "would undermine the Catholic witness on the nature of marriage and the family. It would confuse and mislead the faithful. And it would wound the unity of our Church, because it could not be ignored or met with silence."

With these few words the Archbishop once again stood for truth, for Christ and for God's design for marriage and the family. In this, the 50th year of Pope Paul VI's remarkable encyclical Humane Vitae, we thank Archbishop Chaput for again putting Christ before political correctness.

Nothing that deviates from God's plan for man -- be it abortion, euthanasia or same sex marriage -- can be accepted by those of us who give reverence to the truth.
